‘Part of
the Solution’ aims to involve men in raising awareness about the
unacceptable and cowardly nature of violence within intimate relationships.
Although
it may seem out of the ordinary for a women’s lobby group to launch a
campaign intended specifically for a male audience, the reality is that
domestic violence is not 'just' a women’s issue.
Domestic
violence is a community issue that touches each and every one of us
-
whether directly or indirectly -
regardless of gender.
This fact is increasingly recognised around the world, along with the
important role men can play in efforts to reduce violence.
Most men
find the thought of violence towards an intimate partner appalling, and want
to help in putting a stop to domestic violence. These men are part of
the solution. They can go out into the community
and
spread the word that domestic violence is not something to be tolerated...it
is something to be condemned.
Part of the Solution
acknowledges
that men are able to make a great contribution to tackling the problem of violence
in society, and gives men an opportunity to take positive action.
Men
wanting to support the campaign are asked to engage in grassroots measures,
including simple steps like letter writing, contributing to victim
support programs and charitable organisations, and talking to other men
about domestic violence. Come on - become part of the solution!
